Antique Victorian hallmarked 1899 9ct Gold Sweetheart Brooch Pin in Box

A lovely late Victorian gold sweetheart bar brooch, featuring a love heart with applied forget-me-not flowers; in the Victorian language of flowers the forget-me-not were used as a declaration of love. Brooch is fully hallmarked to the reverse, indicating it was assayed for 9ct gold at Birmingham, in 1899 by the Stainton Brothers; noted manufacturing goldsmiths. Secured with a tube hinge pin and open c clasp, brooch measures approx. Presented as found in fitted brooch box, from Knight & Son of Northampton; box is also in good condition with working hinge and clasp and some genuine age related wear.
